History and Biography of Isaac Tyson

Isaac Tyson, the third child of Henry Tyson and his wife Sarah, was born around 1768, probably in York County, PA.  There are no baptismal records for him, but this date of birth is calculated based on him being younger than Jehu and Hannah, but older than his brother Jacob.  Sometime around 1790, he married his wife Mary Margaret (last name unknown).

Census records in 1800 and 1810 indicate they lived in Windsor Twp.  However, the family appeared to move by the time of Isaac’s death to Hellam Twp.  The administration bond says that Isaac lived in Wrightsville and an Orphans Court record stated that he lived in Hellam Twp.  At this time, I have not been able to locate exactly where Isaac lived in either Windsor or Hellam Twp, as there does not appear to be any recorded deeds for Isaac or his wife.

Isaac passed away sometime in 1817, as an Administration Bond was filed for his estate on November 29, 1817.  Orphans Court records indicate that he was the father of 9 children.  In 1819, guardians were appointed for Joseph, Samuel, Harriet and Isaac, who at the time were under the age of 14.  Casandra, over the age of 14, had a guardian appointed on her own petition.  An Orphans Court record mentions all 9 children, the five previously listed plus Sarah who was married with John Stine, Daniel, Henry and Mary Margaret, who had died before Isaac and was married to Christian Landes.

I have not been able to identify what happened to Casandra, Joseph and Harriet nor do I have any leads.  For his son Henry, there is a Henry Tyson who married Susanna Shultz that lived in North Codorus Twp that was born about 1792, which is the right age for Isaac’s son named Henry.  However, a biography of Henry S. Tyson, son of the Henry Tyson from North Codorus Twp, states that his father Henry was born in Ohio and that his grandfather was named Benjamin Tyson and settled from Ohio after coming from England.  It is unclear as to how accurate this story is, since census records for 1850, 1860 and 1870 all indicate that Henry was born in PA, not Ohio.  At this time, I can’t determine if this Henry Tyson was the son of Isaac or not, so he will not be listed as his son.
