9 Sarah & Rebecca Miller

Sarah, the second youngest child of Michael Jr. and Elizabeth was born in 1831. Sarah never
married, she spent most of her adult life living with her younger sister Rebecca, who also never
married. Sarah lived with her parents until they passed away, then according to the 1870 census she lived with her oldest brother Jacob on the original Miller farmstead. More than likely, she moved in with Jacob to take care of his children since his wife passed away in 1862. According to the York County Archives records, she purchased a home in York City in 1876. In 1877, she is listed as residing at 22 College Avenue, now re-numbered as 40 E College Ave. There are no records that list if she was ever employed, no occupation is listed for her on the census records. It is believed she sustained herself from the inheritance she received from her father. She lived here until she passed away in 1911. Sarah is buried in Freysville Cemetery in the same burial plot as her parents and younger sister.

The youngest child of Michael Jr. and Elizabeth, Rebecca, was born in 1835. As previously
mentioned, Rebecca never married and spent much of her adult life living with her older sister Sarah.  She lived with her parents until they passed away, then lived with her oldest brother Jacob. More than likely, she moved in with Jacob to take care of his children since his wife passed away in 1862. In 1877 she was listed as living with her sister in York City on College Avenue, where she remained until she passed away in 1917. Like her sister, there are no occupations listed for Rebecca on the census records and it appears she was able to live off the inheritance she received from her father. Rebecca is buried in Freysville Cemetery in the same burial plot as her parents and sister Sarah.
