History and Biography of Rosina Flinchbaugh

Rosina Margaretha Flinchbaugh, the fifth child of Melchior Flinchbaugh and Sophia Catharine Rembold, was born around 1750 in Grossgartach, Germany.  At a very young age, she made the journey with her parents and other siblings on the ship “Brothers” in 1753 and arrived in his new country on September 26, 1753 in Philadelphia.  Sometime around 1770, Rosina married Christopher Shoop/Schupp.  Christopher was born in November 1743 in Lancaster County, Pa and died January 20, 1820 in Lower Paxton Twp, Dauphin County, PA.  They were the parents of at least 11 children.  As mentioned in the section about her father Melchior, the Flinchbaugh and Shoop families knew each other before Melchior moved his family to York in the mid 1760’s, as evidenced by the fact that the Shoop’s were sponsors for the baptism of Melchior’s son Christopher born in 1758

2. Daniel Shoop born February 15, 1774 in Lancaster County, PA, died November 17, 1807 in Dauphin County, PA and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA.  He married Susanna Blasser born October 1, 1774, died April 9, 1836 and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA
3. Catherine Shoop born September 17, 1775 in Lancaster County, PA, died August 12, 1840 and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA.  She married Peter Felty born November 19, 1773, died November 30, 1858 and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA
4. Jacob Shoop born February 10, 1778 in Lancaster County, PA, died November 11, 1844 in Dauphin County, PA and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA.
5. Christopher Shoop born about 1780
6. Rosina Shoop born about 1781
7. Jonas Shoop born about 1782 and baptized in 1783
8. Elizabeth Shoop born November 19, 1783 in Lancaster County, PA, died September 17, 1851 in Dauphin County, PA and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA.  She married John Ewing born April 17, 1788, died December 29, 1866 and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA
9. Frederick Shoop born July 22, 1785 in Lancaster County, PA, died September 3, 1835 in Dauphin County, PA and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA.  He married Maria Magdalena Garman born February 5, 1792, died March 5, 1870 and buried at Shoop’s Cemetery in Dauphin County, PA
10. Magdalena Shoop born July 23, 1787 in Lancaster County, PA.  She married Jacob Bear
11. Christina Shoop born May 4, 1791 in Lancaster County, PA, died in 1859 in Hancock County, OH and buried at McComb Union Cemetery in Hancock County, OH.  She married William Ewing born April 16, 1793, died in 1873 Hancock County, OH and buried at McComb Union Cemetery in Hancock County, OH
