History and Biography of Catherine Flinchbaugh
Sophia Catherine Flinchbaugh, the oldest daughter and fourth child of Melchior Flinchbaugh and Sophia Catharine Rembold, was born on January 22, 1747 in Grossgartach, Germany and baptized on January 23, 1747 according to his baptismal record. At the age of 6, she made the journey with her parents and other siblings on the ship “Brothers” in 1753 and arrived in his new country on September 26, 1753 in Philadelphia.
Sometime shortly after Melchior moved the family to York County, PA around 1764, she met and married Jacob Bleymeyer (Blymire). Jacob was born in December 23, 1737 in Wurttemberg, Germany. Catherine (which is the name she used in all the church records) and Jacob were the parents of seven children.
