3. Christian Craley (1795-1841)

History and Biography of Christian Craley

Christian Craley, the fourth child and second son of Christian Craley and his wife Catherine Gohn, was born about 1795 in York County, PA.  He was baptized on June 21, 1795 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (then known as Stehli’s Church) in Chanceford Twp, York County, PA.  Sometime around 1813, Christian married Susan Smeltzer, daughter of Michael Smeltzer.  Susan passed away in 1827 and Christian got re-married Mary Blouse.  Census records indicate that Christian raised his family in the vicinity of his father’s land in Chanceford Twp.

As previously mentioned, Christian was first married to Susan Smeltzer, who passed away in 1827.  Orphans Court records indicate that Christian and Susan were the parents of five children.  From oldest to youngest, they are named John, Christian, Michael, Catherine and Benjamin.  By the time Christian died in 1841, John is not mentioned in his will, therefore making it almost certain he died without issue before his father died.

Shortly after Susan passed away, Christian got re-married to Mary Blouse.  According to Christian’s Orphans Court records from his estate in 1841, Christian and Mary had 3 children together.  Their names, from oldest to youngest, are Henry, Mary Jane and Fannie.  When Christian passed away in 1841, Mary got re-married to Henry Wackerman.
